Disfrazarse, fingir identidad; tergiversar o atribuir erróneamente; entregar como ajeno; profanar, tratar como extraño.
Verbo denominativo construido sobre la raíz נכר ('extraño, foráneo') que explora lo que sucede cuando lo familiar se trata como ajeno o viceversa. José 'se hizo extraño' ante sus hermanos (Gn 42:7) y la esposa de Jeroboam se disfrazó ante el profeta (1 R 14:5-6), ambos en Hitpael reflexivo. El Piel extiende la raíz a terrenos más oscuros: enemigos que 'tergiversan' los actos de Dios (Dt 32:27) y quienes 'profanan' el espacio sagrado tratándolo como extranjero (Jer 19:4). En Dt 32:27 Moisés advierte que los enemigos de Israel podrían 'tergiversar' su victoria, atribuyendo a su propio poder lo que en realidad fue juicio divino.
