To learn through study, instruction, or experience; to ascertain or come to know a fact
Manthano is the ordinary Greek word for learning, whether through formal instruction, personal experience, or careful observation. Jesus invites disciples to 'learn from me' (Matt 11:29) and urges them to 'go and learn what this means' (Matt 9:13), pointing to learning as both relational and scriptural. Paul uses it for the traditions believers have been taught (Phil 4:9; 2 Tim 3:14) as well as for learning contentment through experience (Phil 4:11). A single New Testament instance carries the narrower sense of ascertaining a fact through inquiry — when the Roman tribune 'learned' Paul was a citizen (Acts 23:27).
