To talk with or together; to converse or confer, ranging from informal exchange to official deliberation.
Sullaleo is a compound of sun (together) and laleo (speak) — at its core, it means to talk with someone or among a group. On the Mount of Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah are 'talking together' with Jesus (Matt 17:3; Mark 9:4; Luke 9:30), and in Capernaum the astonished crowd talks among themselves about Jesus' authority (Luke 4:36). But the word can also carry official weight: in Acts 25:12, Festus 'confers' with his council before rendering a judicial decision. Spanish distinguishes the two registers neatly — 'conversar/hablar' for informal exchange, 'conferir' for deliberation.

Senses
1. talk with, converse To speak or converse with someone, engaging in mutual verbal exchange in a narrative or informal setting. On the Mount of Transfiguration, Moses and Elijah are seen talking with Jesus (Matt 17:3; Mark 9:4; Luke 9:30) — an event so remarkable that all three Synoptics record it using sullaleo. Luke 4:36 uses it for the crowd's astonished chatter after a demonic exorcism, and Luke 22:4 for Judas's private negotiation with the chief priests. Translations converge on conversational vocabulary: Spanish 'conversaban/hablaban,' French 'parler avec,' German 'sich besprechen.'

2. confer, deliberate To confer or deliberate in an official or judicial setting, carrying a nuance of formal consultation before a decision. In Acts 25:12, after Paul appeals to Caesar, Festus confers (sullalesas) with his advisory council before pronouncing his ruling. Spanish 'habiendo conferido' and English 'having conferred' capture the deliberative gravity that sets this usage apart from casual conversation — the prefix sun- here implies collective weighing of a matter, not merely talking together.
