Used in Hitpael reflexive: Joseph making himself unrecognizable to his brothers (Gen 42:7), Jeroboam's wife disguising herself before the prophet Ahijah (1 Kgs 14:5-6). Also in Nifal: one who disguises his hatred with his lips (Prov 26:24). The core semantic thread is self-concealment of identity. 3. deliver over, hand over to a stranger — To treat someone as foreign by delivering or handing them over, estranging them from their proper place. In 1 Sam 23:7 Saul says God has delivered (nikkar) David into his hand. The sense extends the 'treat as foreign' root meaning to an act of alienation or surrender.
