V-Hifil-Imperf.Jus-3ms  |  8× in 3 senses
To take root or become firmly established; also to uproot, tear out by the roots, or be uprooted.
A denominative verb built on the noun for 'root' (shoresh), carrying both ends of the botanical metaphor. In its Hiphil and Poal stems it pictures Israel or the wicked striking deep roots into the land (Isa 27:6; Jer 12:2), while the Piel means violent uprooting — God tearing someone out of the land of the living (Ps 52:5). Spanish 'arraigado' (rooted) and 'desarraigará' (will uproot) capture the polarity neatly. The passive Pual in Job 31:8 ('be uprooted') rounds out the picture: what God plants, God can also pull up.

Senses
1. to take root, become established To take root, become firmly established — said of Israel's future flourishing (Isa 27:6), a vine planted by God (Ps 80:9), or even the deceptive prosperity of the wicked (Jer 12:2; Isa 40:24). Spanish 'echando raíces' and 'arraigado' both highlight the gradual, organic process of becoming deeply settled. Covers Hiphil, Poal, and Poel stems across five occurrences.

2. to uproot, pull out by the roots To uproot, tear out by the roots — active destruction in the Piel stem. In Ps 52:5, God uproots the deceitful from the land of the living; in Job 31:12, fire metaphorically 'roots at' all one's produce. Spanish 'desarraigará' (will uproot) mirrors the violent reversal of sense 1.

3. to be uprooted To be uprooted — the Pual passive, appearing once in Job 31:8, where Job invokes a self-curse: 'let what I have planted be uprooted.' Spanish 'serán desarraigados' confirms the passive force. The single occurrence rounds out the active-passive pair with sense 2.
