Delight, exquisite pleasure; an intensive plural noun expressing deep enjoyment, often directed toward God's law or wisdom.
An intensive plural noun expressing profound delight and supreme enjoyment, most characteristically used in Psalm 119 to describe the psalmist's passionate love for God's Torah. Five of its nine occurrences appear in that single psalm (119:24, 77, 92, 143, 174), where the law is described as the speaker's delight in times of affliction and wandering. In Proverbs 8:30-31, personified Wisdom declares she was God's daily delight at creation, rejoicing in the inhabited world. Isaiah 5:7 calls Judah the 'planting of his delight,' and Jeremiah 31:20 names Ephraim a 'child of delight.' Spanish 'delicias' and French 'délice' beautifully capture the intensive, almost ecstatic quality.

Senses
1. delight, exquisite pleasure Deep, intensive delight or exquisite pleasure, always in the plural of intensity (שַׁעֲשֻׁעִים). The word expresses more than ordinary enjoyment—it conveys a kind of rapturous engagement. In Psalm 119 (vv. 24, 77, 92, 143, 174), the psalmist declares God's testimonies and Torah to be his 'delights,' the sustaining joy that preserves him through suffering. In Proverbs 8:30-31, Wisdom herself was God's daily delight before creation and found her delight among humanity. Isaiah 5:7 and Jeremiah 31:20 use it for God's tender delight in his people. Spanish 'delicias' and 'deleites,' French 'délice,' and German evidence all point to a register of intense, deeply personal pleasure.
