An Aramaic verb appearing exclusively in Daniel, spanning the range from having raw power over physical forces to exercising royal dominion. In Daniel 3:27 fire 'had no power' over the three youths, while in 5:7 and 5:16 the verb describes being appointed ruler of the kingdom. The Hifil causative form captures Nebuchadnezzar's God-given authority to grant rulership to others (Dan 2:38, 2:48). Spanish gobernará and te ha hecho gobernar neatly distinguish the base and causative stems.
