V-Piel-Prtcpl-ms  |  5× in 1 sense
to speak, say (Aramaic Pael) — used of both human and divine speech
This Aramaic verb in the Pael stem means 'to speak' or 'to say,' cognate with the rare Hebrew Piel of malal. All five occurrences appear in Daniel. In Dan 6:21, Darius speaks with Daniel at the lions' den. The remaining four passages (Dan 7:8, 11, 20, 25) describe the horn of the fourth beast that speaks arrogantly — uttering 'great things' against the Most High. Spanish hablaba/hablando/hablara consistently renders it with hablar, while French and German retain transliterations alongside parler.

Senses
1. sense 1 To speak or utter words, used in Aramaic (Pael conjugation) for both ordinary speech and grandiose, blasphemous pronouncements. Daniel 6:21 records Darius speaking with Daniel after the night in the lions' den, the only instance of neutral conversational speech. The four occurrences in Daniel 7 (vv. 8, 11, 20, 25) all describe the little horn's arrogant speech against God, with Spanish hablaba/hablando and French parler uniformly reflecting the basic meaning 'to speak.' The term thus spans from gentle royal inquiry to apocalyptic defiance.
