V-PIA-2S  |  97× in 2 senses
To teach or instruct; in the passive, to be taught or receive instruction from another.
Didaskō is the central New Testament verb for teaching and instruction, describing the authoritative impartation of knowledge, doctrine, or ethical guidance. Jesus teaches in synagogues, on hillsides, and by the sea (Matt 4:23; 5:2), and the crowds marvel because he teaches 'as one having authority' (Matt 7:29). The apostles continue this ministry in the early church. A smaller but significant passive strand highlights reception of teaching — Paul insists he was not taught his gospel by any human (Gal 1:12), and believers are reminded of what they were taught (Eph 4:21; Col 2:7). Spanish enseñar, French enseigner, and German lehren all preserve the active-passive distinction consistently.
1. teach, instruct actively Active teaching and instruction — the deliberate impartation of knowledge, doctrine, or practical wisdom to others. This dominant sense covers Jesus' public ministry (Matt 4:23; 7:29), apostolic teaching in churches, and general didactic activity. All major translation languages render it consistently: Spanish enseñando, French enseigner, German lehren. The emphasis falls on the teacher's authoritative act of communicating truth. 92×

2. be taught, receive instruction Passive reception of instruction — being taught or having received teaching from another. Paul's emphatic declaration that he was not taught (edidachthēn) his gospel by any human but by revelation (Gal 1:12) anchors this sense. Ephesians 4:21 and 2 Thessalonians 2:15 remind believers of doctrines they 'were taught.' The passive voice shifts focus from teacher to learner, highlighting the dependence of the recipient on the source of instruction.
