Este verbo arameo en la conjugación Pael significa «hablar» o «decir», cognado con el raro Piel hebreo de la misma raíz. Sus cinco apariciones se concentran en Daniel. En Dan 6:21, Darío habla con Daniel junto al foso de los leones. Los cuatro pasajes restantes (Dan 7:8, 11, 20, 25) describen el cuerno de la cuarta bestia que profiere palabras arrogantes —«grandes cosas» contra el Altísimo—. La traducción española emplea consistentemente formas del verbo «hablar»: hablaba, hablando, hablará.
