1. write (Aramaic) — Aramaic verb meaning to write, to record in writing. In the Peal (Qal) stem it denotes the active act of writing: officials wrote an accusation against Judah and Jerusalem (Ezra 4:8, perfect 3mp), King Darius wrote a decree to all peoples (Dan 6:25, perfect 3ms), Daniel wrote down a dream (Dan 7:1, perfect 3ms), and the mysterious fingers wrote on the wall at Belshazzar's feast (Dan 5:5, feminine participles describing the hand writing and what it wrote). In the Peal imperfect it expresses intended writing: 'let us write' a letter to the king (Ezra 5:10). In the passive (Nifal/Peil) it means 'to be written, recorded,' describing official correspondence already committed to writing (Ezra 5:7; 6:2).
