Aramaic verb: to sit, dwell, be seated; causative: to settle or cause to dwell
This Aramaic verb appears exclusively in the books of Ezra and Daniel, where it carries the primary meanings of sitting (especially in a judicial context) and dwelling. In Daniel 7:9-10, it describes the Ancient of Days taking his seat for judgment -- a scene of cosmic authority. In Ezra 4:17, it refers to peoples dwelling in a region, while the causative (Haphel) form in Ezra 4:10 describes forced resettlement of populations. It is the Aramaic cognate of the common Hebrew yashav.

Senses
1. sense 1 To sit or be seated, particularly in a context of authority or judgment. The multilingual evidence converges on 'sat/seated' (English 'sat,' Spanish 'se sentó,' French 'asseoir'). Used in Daniel 7:9-10 and 7:26 for the divine judge taking his throne, the Aramaic cognate of Hebrew yashav carries the full weight of royal and judicial enthronement in the apocalyptic vision.
