To think, have a mindset, direct one's thoughts; ranging from momentary reflection to a settled disposition or orientation of mind
A verb of the mind that spans both active thinking and habitual disposition. In the Gospels, Jesus rebukes Peter with it -- 'you are not minding the things of God' (Matt 16:23; Mark 8:33) -- where the force is not mere cognition but a settled orientation of concern. Paul uses it extensively in Romans to contrast flesh-minded versus Spirit-minded living (Rom 8:5), and urges believers not to think of themselves more highly than they ought (Rom 12:3). Spanish 'pensad' and French 'penser' capture the reflective side, while German 'gesinnt sein' (to be disposed) brings out the dispositional flavor that makes this word richer than a simple 'think.'

Senses
1. think, consider mentally The active cognitive sense: to think, consider, or reflect on a matter, forming opinions or deliberating. This covers the majority of occurrences, including Jesus' rebuke in Matt 16:23 ('you are not thinking the things of God') and Paul's exhortation in Rom 12:3 about sober self-assessment. Spanish 'pensad/pensando' and French 'penser' consistently render this straightforward intellectual activity. 24×

2. set one's mind on, regard A sustained dispositional sense: to set one's mind on, to regard or care about habitually. Distinguished from momentary cognition by implying an ongoing orientation of attention. Rom 8:5 is the paradigm case -- those who live according to the flesh 'mind' the things of the flesh. The repeated occurrences in Rom 14:6 show regard for the Lord in daily practices. German 'gesinnt sein' (to be of a certain mind/disposition) captures this habitual coloring especially well.
