V-RPM/P-NFS  |  5× in 1 sense
To confound, throw into confusion; to stir up, bewilder, or create uproar among people.
This vivid verb literally means to pour together or mix up, but in Acts it consistently describes the social and psychological upheaval caused by unexpected events. When the crowd at Pentecost heard their own languages spoken, they were 'confounded' (Acts 2:6). Saul's powerful preaching threw the Damascus Jews into confusion (Acts 9:22), and mob chaos in Ephesus and Jerusalem shows the word's capacity for both inner bewilderment and outward riot. Spanish captures both dimensions with 'confundir' (bewilder) and 'alborotar' (create uproar).

Senses
1. sense 1 To throw into confusion or uproar — whether the internal bewilderment of a crowd that cannot process what they are witnessing (Acts 2:6, the multilingual miracle at Pentecost) or the external chaos of a rioting mob (Acts 19:32, Acts 21:27). Spanish 'confundir' and 'alborotar' together capture the full range: cognitive disorientation and social upheaval. All five NT occurrences appear in Acts, reflecting Luke's interest in the turbulent public response to the gospel's advance.
