Confundir, causar tumulto; desconcertar o provocar alboroto entre la gente.
Este verbo expresivo significa literalmente 'verter junto' o 'mezclar', pero en Hechos describe de manera consistente la conmoción social y psicológica causada por acontecimientos inesperados. Cuando la multitud en Pentecostés oyó hablar sus propias lenguas, quedó 'confundida' (Hch 2:6). La poderosa predicación de Saulo desconcertó a los judíos de Damasco (Hch 9:22), y el caos de las turbas en Éfeso y Jerusalén muestra la capacidad del término para abarcar tanto el desconcierto interior como el tumulto exterior. El español capta ambas dimensiones con 'confundir' para la perplejidad y 'alborotar' para el desorden público.
