Greedy desire for more, covetousness — a relentless craving that exploits others for gain
Denotes an insatiable desire to possess more than one's due, often at the expense of others. In Luke 12:15, Jesus warns against every form of pleonexia, linking it to the illusion that life consists in abundance of possessions. Paul groups it with sexual immorality and idolatry as characteristic of the old self (Eph 4:19; 5:3; Col 3:5), and in 2 Peter 2:3 false teachers exploit believers through fabricated words driven by pleonexia. The Spanish 'avaricia/codicia' and French 'cupidité' both capture the aggressive, grasping quality that distinguishes this vice from mere desire.
