A diminutive form referring to a small writing tablet, usually wooden and coated with wax for temporary messages. In Luke 1:63, Zechariah uses such a tablet to write his son's name after being struck mute. These portable tablets were common household items in the ancient Mediterranean world, used for quick notes, letters, or—as in Zechariah's case—urgent communication when speech was impossible.
