Luke uses it to capture the crowd's reaction after Jesus heals the paralytic: 'We have seen remarkable things today.' The term can denote the incredible, the unexpected, or Stoic paradoxes. It suggests disruption of normal categories, events that defy conventional wisdom. The word evokes astonishment at what shouldn't be possible but is. Reality has outrun expectation.

Senses
1. sense 1 Luke 5:26 reports the crowd's response to the paralytic's healing: 'We have seen remarkable things today!' The adjective captures their stunned amazement—not merely impressive acts but things defying expectation. The paralytic walked, sins were forgiven, divine authority was displayed in flesh. What they witnessed scrambled their categories, producing both fear and glorifying of God. The paradox of divinity in humanity became undeniable.
