The compound noun pantokrator (παντοκράτωρ, 'ruler of all') serves as the standard LXX and NT rendering of the Hebrew divine titles El Shaddai and YHWH Tsevaoth ('LORD of Hosts'). Nine of its ten NT occurrences appear in Revelation, where it punctuates the heavenly liturgy: 'Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty' (Rev 4:8), 'We give you thanks, Lord God Almighty' (Rev 11:17), and 'the marriage supper of the Lamb' is hosted by the Lord God Almighty (Rev 19:6). The sole non-Revelation occurrence quotes the OT: 'I will be a Father to you, says the Lord Almighty' (2 Cor 6:18). Translations preserve the superlative force: Spanish 'Todopoderoso,' German 'Allmachtige,' French 'Tout-Puissant,' Hindi 'sarvashaktiman,' Arabic 'al-qadir ala kulli shay,' Korean 'jeonneungja,' Swahili 'Mwenyezi Mungu.'
