N-ANP  |  4× in 1 sense
Possession, piece of property; something acquired and owned, especially landed estate or material wealth.
Derived from κτάομαι ('to acquire'), this noun denotes a concrete possession—something gotten and held as property. In classical Greek it could refer to any acquired asset, from slaves to heirlooms, but in the NT it appears in contexts of landed wealth. The rich young man went away sorrowful because he had many κτήματα (Matt 19:22; Mark 10:22), and the early Jerusalem believers sold their possessions and distributed the proceeds (Acts 2:45; 5:1). Spanish propiedades and German Besitz both highlight the tangible, material nature of these holdings.

Senses
1. sense 1 Possession, piece of property, estate. Refers to acquired material goods, especially landed property or substantial wealth. In the Synoptic accounts of the rich young man (Matt 19:22, Mark 10:22), the plural κτήματα emphasizes the extent of his holdings that made discipleship costly. In Acts 2:45 and 5:1 it denotes real property sold by early believers for communal redistribution. The multilingual glosses—Spanish posesiones/propiedades, French possession, German Besitz—uniformly point to tangible, owned assets rather than abstract possession.
