Called, invited — divinely summoned to salvation, service, or the messianic banquet
The adjective κλητός (kletos) describes those whom God has summoned, whether to salvation, apostolic service, or the eschatological feast. Jesus warns that 'many are called but few are chosen' (Matt 22:14), distinguishing the broad invitation from the final selection. Paul introduces himself as 'called apostle' (Rom 1:1; 1 Cor 1:1) and addresses believers as 'called saints' (Rom 1:7; 1 Cor 1:2) and 'called according to his purpose' (Rom 8:28). In Revelation, those who follow the Lamb are 'called, chosen, and faithful' (Rev 17:14). The term carries theological weight as a marker of divine initiative.
