N-NFS  |  11× in 1 sense
Boasting, act of glorying — the action or exercise of boasting, exulting, or taking pride in something
The noun καύχησις (kauchēsis) denotes the act of boasting — the activity itself, as opposed to καύχημα which is the thing boasted about. Paul asks 'where then is boasting?' and answers that it is excluded by the law of faith (Rom 3:27). His boasting in the Corinthians proves well-founded (2 Cor 7:4, 14; 8:24), and his conscience confirms his boasting in holy conduct is sincere (2 Cor 1:12). He insists no one will stop his boasting about preaching free of charge (2 Cor 11:10). The Thessalonians are his 'crown of boasting' (1 Thess 2:19). James warns that boasting in worldly plans is evil (Jas 4:16). Spanish 'jactancia' and Arabic 'الافتِخار' convey the active character of this glorying.

Senses
1. boasting, act of glorying The act, exercise, or process of boasting, glorying, or exulting — the activity of taking pride in something. Paul declares that boasting is excluded by the principle of faith (Rom 3:27) and that his own boasting in Christ Jesus is in the things of God (Rom 15:17). His boasting about the Corinthians is vindicated (2 Cor 7:4, 14; 8:24), his boasting in holy sincerity of conscience (2 Cor 1:12), and his insistence on preaching without pay in Achaia (2 Cor 11:10). He acknowledges some boasting is 'not according to the Lord' yet presses on (2 Cor 11:17). His daily dying is itself a form of boasting in the Corinthians (1 Cor 15:31), and they are his crown of boasting at the Lord's coming (1 Thess 2:19). James condemns boasting in worldly plans as arrogant evil (Jas 4:16). Spanish 'jactancia' and Arabic 'الافتِخار' both capture the active, verbal character of the glorying. 11×
