N-GNS  |  76× in 1 sense
Good news; the gospel — the announcement of God's saving action in Christ, or a reward for bearing such news.
In classical Greek, euangelion originally meant the reward given to a messenger who brought good tidings, or the thank-offering made upon hearing them. By the New Testament period it had become the message itself — the 'gospel,' the proclamation of God's redemptive work through Jesus Christ. Mark opens his entire narrative with this word (Mark 1:1), and Paul uses it as a near-technical term for the apostolic proclamation (Rom 1:16; 1 Cor 15:1). Spanish evangelio, French evangile, and German Evangelium all descend directly from the Greek, testifying to the term's enduring centrality in Christian vocabulary across centuries and cultures.

Senses
1. good news The good news or gospel — God's saving action proclaimed through Jesus Christ. Used both as a general term for glad tidings (Matt 4:23; 24:14) and as a semi-technical designation for the apostolic message preached to all nations (Mark 1:1; Rom 1:16). Every target language renders it with a single loanword or calque from the Greek. 76×
