ἔντῑμ-ος G1784
Adj-NMS  |  5× in 1 sense
Honored, esteemed, precious; of persons held in high regard or of things considered valuable and choice.
An adjective built on timē ('honor, value'), describing someone or something held in high esteem. It can apply to persons -- like the centurion's valued servant (Luke 7:2) or Christian leaders who deserve special recognition (Phil 2:29) -- and also to things, such as the choice, precious living stone that is Christ (1 Pet 2:4, 6). The Spanish preciosa and honorable and the French honorable together reflect its dual range: intrinsic preciousness and socially recognized honor. Jesus' parable about choosing the more honored seat at a banquet (Luke 14:8) highlights the social dimension.

Senses
1. sense 1 Honored, esteemed, held in high regard among people. Applied to the centurion's servant who was dear to him (Luke 7:2), to the more honored place at a feast (Luke 14:8), and to leaders like Epaphroditus whom believers should hold in high esteem (Phil 2:29). The Spanish más-honorable and French honorable capture the relational, social aspect of this sense -- worth recognized by others in a community setting. In 1 Peter 2:4, 6, the term extends to Christ as the 'chosen and precious' cornerstone, where divine honor elevates the word from social esteem to theological worth.
