V-FIA-2S  |  16× in 2 senses
To stretch out or extend, especially the hand in healing, command, or action; once of lowering equipment from a ship.
One of the New Testament's most vivid action verbs, overwhelmingly associated with the outstretched hand. Jesus stretches out his hand to touch the leper (Matt 8:3; Mark 1:41; Luke 5:13), commands the man with the withered hand to 'stretch it out' and it is restored (Matt 12:13; Mark 3:5; Luke 6:10), and gestures broadly toward his disciples as his true family (Matt 12:49). Peter is told 'you will stretch out your hands' in a prophecy of his martyrdom (John 21:18). A single nautical usage in Acts 27:30 describes sailors lowering anchors under pretense of 'laying out' equipment from the bow—a technical maritime extension of the same physical motion.

Senses
1. stretch out (hand) To stretch out or extend the hand, whether for healing, commanding, seizing, or gesturing. This is the near-universal New Testament usage: Jesus extends his hand to cleanse the leper (Matt 8:3; Mark 1:41), to restore the withered hand (Matt 12:13; Mark 3:5; Luke 6:10), and to indicate his disciples (Matt 12:49). Peter stretches out his hand in martyrdom prophecy (John 21:18), and a servant's ear is struck by a stretched-out sword (Matt 26:51). Spanish 'extiende/extenderás' and German 'ausgestreckt/streckt-aus' consistently render this as outward physical extension. 15×

2. lay out, let down (nautical) To lay out or let down equipment from a ship, a specialized nautical usage. In Acts 27:30, sailors pretend to be 'laying out anchors from the bow' while actually trying to escape in the ship's boat. Spanish 'echar' (to cast/lower) and English 'lay out' reflect the maritime technical sense, where the same root motion of extending or stretching is applied to handling rigging and anchors rather than human limbs.
