A tear or tears shed in weeping, expressing grief, compassion, or earnest supplication
Refers to the physical tears shed as an outward sign of deep emotion — grief, pastoral anguish, penitent devotion, or compassionate prayer. Paul invokes his own tears to authenticate his pastoral sincerity (Acts 20:19, 31; 2 Cor 2:4; 2 Tim 1:4). The sinful woman's tears at Jesus' feet become a vehicle of worship and repentance (Luke 7:38, 44). Hebrews 5:7 attributes tears to Jesus himself in his prayers.
