V-AIA-3S  |  4× in 1 sense
to straighten up, stand erect; to lift one's head or body from a bent posture
Formed from ana ('up') and kupto ('to bend, stoop'), this verb describes the physical motion of raising oneself from a stooped or bowed position. In Luke 13:11, the woman crippled for eighteen years was unable to 'straighten up at all' until Jesus healed her. Luke 21:28 uses it eschatologically: 'Stand up and lift your heads, for your redemption draws near.' In John 8:7 and 8:10, Jesus straightens up from writing on the ground to address the woman's accusers—a quiet, powerful gesture of deliberate attention.

Senses
1. sense 1 To raise oneself from a bent or stooped posture, to stand erect or lift the head. Spanish 'enderezarse' (to straighten oneself) and French 'se relever' (to raise oneself up) both emphasize the reflexive, embodied nature of the action. Luke 13:11 describes a woman physically unable to straighten up; Luke 21:28 uses it figuratively for confident expectation; John 8:7, 10 depict Jesus rising from stooping to write on the ground.
