V-Piel-Perf-3cp  |  5× in 1 sense
to be at ease, rest securely; dwell undisturbed and free from threat
This Piel verb conveys the state of being at ease, secure, and undisturbed by misfortune. In Jeremiah 30:10 and 46:27, God promises that Israel will return and be 'at ease with none making them afraid,' pairing sha'anan with shaqat (be quiet). Moab's complacency is described with the same word in Jeremiah 48:11. Proverbs 1:33 promises that whoever listens to wisdom 'will dwell securely and be at ease from dread of evil.' The Spanish 'tranquilo' aptly captures this settled, untroubled calm.

Senses
1. sense 1 To be at ease, rest securely, dwell undisturbed by calamity or threat. Jeremiah uses it for Israel's promised restoration where they will be quiet and at ease with no one causing terror (Jer 30:10; 46:27), and ironically for Moab's false complacency (Jer 48:11). Proverbs 1:33 pairs it with freedom from dread of evil. Job 3:18 places it in the grave's rest from toil. Spanish 'tranquilo' and English 'at ease' reflect the settled security.
