Salvation, deliverance — God's rescue from danger or enemies; in the plural, his repeated mighty acts of victory.
Yeshu'ah is one of the great theological words of the Hebrew Bible, naming the reality that God rescues his people. At the Red Sea, Moses declares 'Stand firm and see the yeshu'ah of the LORD' (Exod 14:13), and Hannah sings 'my heart exults in the LORD; my horn is exalted in your yeshu'ah' (1 Sam 2:1). Spanish salvación, French salut, and German Heil all point to the same core: divine rescue that is both historical event and spiritual reality. When the plural yeshu'ot appears — as in Ps 18:50 and 2 Sam 22:51 — it highlights God's repeated, concrete victories on behalf of his anointed king.
1. salvation, deliverance — Divine salvation or deliverance viewed as a single encompassing reality — God's act of rescue from danger, distress, or enemies. All target languages converge: spa. salvación, fra. salut, deu. Heil. Moses proclaims it at the Red Sea (Exod 14:13); the psalmist clings to it in Ps 62:2. The word bridges external rescue and inner spiritual hope, as in Gen 49:18 ('I wait for your yeshu'ah, O LORD'). 67×

2. victories, acts of deliverance — Concrete, repeated acts of divine deliverance — victories wrought by God, typically in the plural form yeshu'ot. Spanish salvaciones and the plural glosses in other languages mark this shift from the abstract concept to the enumerable mighty deeds. David praises God as the one who gives 'great victories (yeshu'ot) to his king' (2 Sam 22:51; Ps 18:50), and the psalmist recalls them as grounds for hope (Ps 42:5, 11). 10×
