To rise up, be exalted; a by-form of rum (H7311), also used for withdrawing from danger
A parallel form of the common verb rum (to be high, exalted), appearing in contexts of both physical rising and divine exaltation. In Ezekiel's throne-chariot vision, the cherubim 'rose up' repeatedly (Ezek 10:15, 17, 19), with Spanish 'se elevaron' (they rose) and Arabic 'irtafa'at' (they ascended) capturing the upward movement. Isaiah 33:10 uses it for God's self-exaltation: 'Now I will rise up.' A distinctive usage occurs in Numbers 16:45, where Moses and Aaron are commanded to 'get away' from the congregation before judgment falls -- here the rising motion becomes urgent physical withdrawal, rendered by Spanish 'Apartaos' (withdraw yourselves).
Senses
1. rise up, be exalted — To rise up or be exalted, describing upward movement or elevation in status. The cherubim in Ezekiel's vision 'rose up' from the earth (10:15, 17, 19), while Ps 118:16 celebrates the Lord's right hand as 'exalted.' In Isa 33:10, God himself declares 'I will be exalted.' Spanish 'se elevaron' and Korean 'ollagatta' (went up) confirm the consistent upward-motion semantics across the occurrences. 5×

2. get away, withdraw — To withdraw or get away from a dangerous situation, a Niphal imperative in Num 16:45 where God commands Moses and Aaron to separate themselves from the rebellious congregation of Korah before divine wrath strikes. Spanish 'Apartaos' (withdraw yourselves) reinterprets the root's upward motion as urgent departure. This single occurrence represents a contextual extension: rising up from among a group becomes leaving it entirely. 1×
