To heap up, accumulate, store in great quantity
A verb meaning to pile up or accumulate something in abundance. Its most memorable use is Joseph heaping up grain 'like the sand of the sea' during Egypt's seven years of plenty (Gen 41:35, 49). It also describes the Israelites heaping dead frogs after the plague (Exod 8:14), Tyre heaping silver like dust (Zech 9:3), and the futility of the wicked who heap up riches they will never enjoy (Job 27:16; Ps 39:6). The cognate Arabic dabara ('collect, bind together') confirms the core gathering-and-piling semantics.

Senses
1. heap up, store up To heap up, pile, or store in great quantity — emphasizing the sheer volume of what is accumulated. Joseph stored grain beyond measure during the plentiful years (Gen 41:35, 49). The Israelites heaped up dead frogs in stinking piles (Exod 8:14). Habakkuk 1:10 speaks of heaping up dust against a fortified city. In wisdom contexts, the verb carries an ironic edge: the wicked heap silver like dust (Job 27:16; Zech 9:3) or store up wealth that others will spend (Ps 39:6). Spanish 'acumular / amontonar' and English 'heap up / store' confirm the single, consistent sense.
