Hiphil: to bring out, obtain, furnish; to provide or pour out for others; to promote or advance plans.
Used exclusively in the Hiphil, this verb centers on bringing something forth — whether favor, provision, or the advancement of plans. In Proverbs it appears repeatedly as a near-synonym of מָצָא ('to find'): the one who finds wisdom 'obtains' favor from the LORD (Prov 8:35; 18:22). Spanish 'obtiene' and French 'produire' both capture this drawing-forth of good. The supplying sense appears in Ps 144:13, where flocks 'provide' thousands, and Isa 58:10, where one 'pours out' sustenance for the hungry. A single striking use in Ps 140:8 turns the verb negative: 'do not promote his schemes' — Spanish 'hagas prosperar' revealing the sense of causing something to succeed.
Senses
1. obtain, bring forth — Obtaining or bringing forth, especially divine favor — the most frequent Hiphil sense. Prov 8:35 and 18:22 pair יָפִיק with מָצָא ('find'), describing the one who finds a wife or wisdom as 'obtaining' (bringing forth) favor from YHWH. Prov 3:13 and 12:2 extend this to obtaining understanding and divine goodwill. Spanish 'obtiene/y-obtiene' and French 'produire' consistently render the idea of drawing out something valuable. 4×

2. furnish, provide, pour out — Furnishing, providing, or pouring out for others — the causative sense of actively supplying. Ps 144:13 describes flocks 'providing' (מְפִיקִים) thousands upon thousands, and Isa 58:10 calls for pouring out one's soul for the hungry. Spanish 'proveyendo/Y-ofreces' and French 'de-produire' capture this generous outward flow of provision, extending the root's 'bring out' toward active beneficence. 2×

3. promote, advance (plans) — Promoting, advancing, or causing plans to succeed — a single but distinctive use in Ps 140:8. The psalmist prays that God not 'promote' (תָּפֵק) the wicked man's schemes. Spanish 'hagas prosperar' ('cause to prosper') reveals the causative force clearly: this is not merely obtaining but actively furthering someone's designs. 1×
