V-Qal-Perf-3fs  |  5× in 1 sense
to come up, ascend, arise (Aramaic); of physical or figurative rising
An Aramaic verb meaning to come up or ascend, appearing exclusively in Daniel and Ezra. It describes the four great beasts rising from the sea in Daniel's vision (Dan 7:3), the little horn coming up among the ten (Dan 7:8, 20), and thoughts arising in Nebuchadnezzar's mind on his bed (Dan 2:29). In Ezra 4:12, it reports that Jews have 'come up' from exile to Jerusalem. The Spanish renderings—'subiendo,' 'subieron,' 'subió'—consistently reflect upward movement, whether literal or figurative.

Senses
1. sense 1 To come up, ascend, or arise, used of both physical and visionary movement in Aramaic contexts. Beasts ascend from the sea (Dan 7:3), a horn comes up among others (Dan 7:8, 20), exiles come up to Jerusalem (Ezra 4:12), and thoughts arise in the mind (Dan 2:29). Spanish 'subir' (subiendo/subieron/subió) uniformly captures the upward directionality. The Haph'el causative form means 'to lift up' or 'bring up' (Dan 3:22; 6:24), extending the same spatial logic.
