Fool, foolish person; one who is morally obtuse, senseless, or stubbornly unwise.
A wisdom-literature noun for a fool -- someone marked not merely by ignorance but by moral and intellectual obstinacy. It appears almost exclusively in Ecclesiastes, where Qoheleth probes the futility of leaving one's toil to a fool (Eccl 2:19), warns against being overly wicked or foolish (7:17), and observes the fool's conspicuous lack of sense even while walking down the road (10:3). Jeremiah also uses it sharply: 'my people are foolish, they do not know me' (Jer 4:22; 5:21). Spanish necio and German Tor both capture the sense of willful folly rather than mere naivete.
