N-mp  |  2× in 1 sense
goods, property, possessions; riches subject to confiscation
This Aramaic plural noun denotes property, possessions, or material goods. Both occurrences appear in Ezra's account of Persian support for rebuilding the temple. The term appears in official Persian correspondence about funding sources and potential penalties. One reference concerns using royal goods/funds for temple construction (Ezra 6:8). The other warns of confiscation of property as penalty for disobedience (7:26). The word is standard in Aramaic, Syriac, and later Egyptian Aramaic for material wealth and possessions.

Senses
1. sense 1 Both instances come from Persian imperial decrees recorded in Aramaic. Ezra 6:8 contains Darius's order: 'the cost is to be paid to these men in full and without delay from the royal revenue, the tribute of the province from Beyond the River' (literally 'from the goods/property of the king, the taxes of Beyond-the-River'). This secures funding for the temple. Ezra 7:26 lists penalties for those who won't obey God's law or the king's law: 'let judgment be strictly executed on him, whether for death or for banishment or for confiscation of goods (nikhsin) or for imprisonment.' The phrase 'confiscation of property' ('anash nikhsin) shows these goods could be seized as punishment. The pairing 'from the goods of' (6:8) and 'confiscation of goods' (7:26) demonstrates the term's range from general property to forfeitable assets.
