Place at the feet, feet-area: the spot near someone's feet, especially where one lies down.
A feminine plural noun derived from regel ('foot'), denoting the place at or near someone's feet. It appears almost exclusively in the book of Ruth, in the famous threshing-floor scene where Naomi instructs Ruth to uncover 'the place of his feet' and lie down (Ruth 3:4, 7, 8, 14). Its one other occurrence, Daniel 10:6, describes the gleaming appearance of the angelic figure's lower limbs. The word is carefully distinguished from regel itself — margelot emphasizes the location or area rather than the body part, adding a spatial and perhaps euphemistic dimension to the Ruth narrative.

Senses
1. place at the feet, feet-area The area at or near someone's feet, especially the place where one lies at another's feet. Predominantly a Ruth narrative term (Ruth 3:4, 7, 8, 14), used in Naomi's instructions for the threshing-floor encounter with Boaz, where it carries spatial and possibly euphemistic overtones. In Daniel 10:6 it refers to the lower extremities of the angelic vision. Spanish 'a sus pies' and German 'Fuesse' both render it as 'feet,' but the Hebrew plural denominative form (from regel) specifically denotes the place of the feet rather than the feet themselves.
