A feminine plural noun referring to storage facilities or supply cities where provisions, grain, and military resources were stockpiled. The term appears almost exclusively in the phrase 'arei ha-miskenot' (storage cities). These include the cities Pharaoh forced Israel to build (Exod 1:11), Solomon's supply depots throughout his kingdom (1 Kgs 9:19; 2 Chr 8:4, 6), and Jehoshaphat's fortified storehouses (2 Chr 17:12). Multilingual evidence is strikingly uniform: Spanish 'almacenes,' English 'store-cities' -- every tradition sees purpose-built storage infrastructure.
