Conj-w | V-Nifal-Prtcpl-msc  |  6× in 1 sense
To turn aside, depart; figuratively, to be devious, crooked, or perverse in one's ways.
A poetic verb found almost exclusively in Wisdom Literature, carrying two related meanings: literally 'to turn aside or depart' and figuratively 'to be devious or crooked.' The Niphal participle naloz functions almost as an adjective meaning 'perverse' or 'devious' -- applied to people whose paths are crooked (Prov 2:15), to one who despises the LORD (Prov 3:32; 14:2), and to a crooked course of action (Isa 30:12). The Qal and Hiphil forms in Proverbs 3:21 and 4:21 preserve the literal sense: 'let them not depart from your eyes.' Spanish perverso and French se detourner capture the moral and spatial dimensions respectively.

Senses
1. turn aside, be devious To turn aside or be devious, with the literal sense of departure shading into moral crookedness. In Proverbs 3:21 and 4:21 (Qal/Hiphil), the verb means simply 'to depart' -- wisdom and understanding should not slip away from one's sight. But the Niphal participle naloz consistently carries moral weight: the perverse whose paths are crooked (Prov 2:15), the devious person who is an abomination to the LORD (Prov 3:32), the one who despises God by walking crookedly (Prov 14:2), and the crooked course of action rejected in Isaiah 30:12. Spanish perverso and desviados capture the moral dimension, while French se detourner preserves the spatial metaphor of turning away from the straight path.
