An Aramaic verb appearing in Daniel, carrying the basic sense of tasting and, in the causative Pael stem, feeding someone. Nebuchadnezzar is fed grass like an ox during his madness (Dan 4:25, 32; 5:21), while in Daniel 5:2 Belshazzar acts 'under the influence of' (literally 'in the taste of') wine. The Spanish 'bajo el efecto de' (under the effect of) neatly captures this idiom. The range from literal feeding to metaphorical tasting of wine shows the word's sensory richness.
