Conj-w | V-Piel-Prtcpl-ms  |  3× in 1 sense
glorify, honor (God); Aramaic Pael
An Aramaic verb (Pael stem) appearing exclusively in Daniel, always with God as the object. Nebuchadnezzar 'honored' the Most High after his restoration (Dan 4:34, 37), and Daniel rebukes Belshazzar for failing to 'glorify' the God who holds his breath (Dan 5:23). The Spanish glorificaste and glorifiqué, along with French and German cognates, uniformly render the idea of giving honor and glory. This is cultic and royal language: acknowledging divine sovereignty.

Senses
1. sense 1 The verb appears three times in Daniel's Aramaic chapters, always directed toward God. Nebuchadnezzar glorifies God after humiliation and restoration (Dan 4:34, 37); Belshazzar is condemned for failing to do so (Dan 5:23). The multilingual glosses converge on the semantic field of honoring, glorifying, and exalting the divine.
