A verb with a core meaning of dragging or pulling, which branches into several specialized uses across its stems. In the Qal it describes dragging away by force, as when the Chaldeans sweep nations into their net (Hab 1:15) or violence drags away the wicked (Prov 21:7). The Niphal denotes chewing cud, literally a repetitive drawing motion of the jaw (Lev 11:7). The Poel describes stones sawn with a saw (1 Kgs 7:9), and the Hithpoel a storm sweeping and roaring (Jer 30:23). Arabic jarra and Assyrian gararu preserve the basic 'drag/pull' semantics.
