Cerrar, tapar, obstruir; de oídos (negarse a escuchar) o de ventanas (estrechas, enrejadas) en arquitectura del templo.
El verbo אָטַם describe la acción de cerrar u obstruir, y se aplica en dos ámbitos bien diferenciados. En el plano moral-auditivo, significa taparse los oídos —negarse a escuchar el clamor del pobre (Prov 21:13), sellar los labios con discreción (Prov 17:28) o cerrarse ante la corrupción moral (Isa 33:15). La víbora del Salmo 58:4 se tapa el oído ante el encantador. En el plano arquitectónico, el participio pasivo describe las ventanas estrechas o enrejadas del Templo de Salomón (1 Re 6:4) y del templo visionario de Ezequiel (Ez 40:16; 41:16, 26). El español capta bien la distinción con 'cerrar' frente a 'estrechas'.

1. Cerrar, tapar (oídos) — Cerrar u obstruir los oídos o los labios, describiendo un rechazo deliberado a escuchar o a hablar. Se emplea en el Qal y Hifil: taparse los oídos ante el clamor del pobre (Prov 21:13), guardar silencio prudente cerrando los labios (Prov 17:28) y negarse a oír la corrupción moral (Isa 33:15). 2. Estrechas, cerradas (ventanas) — Cerradas, estrechas o enrejadas, describiendo las aberturas de las ventanas en construcciones del templo. El participio pasivo Qal אֲטֻמִים/אֲטֻמוֹת caracteriza las ventanas (חַלּוֹנוֹת) como estrechas o empotradas. En 1 Reyes 6:4, el Templo de Salomón tiene 'ventanas estrechas y cerradas'. El templo visionario de Ezequiel presenta el mismo tipo de ventanas (Ez 40:16; 41:16, 26). 4×
