V-AIA-1S  |  6× in 2 senses
To show, demonstrate, or point out; also to warn or forewarn someone of coming danger or judgment.
This verb fundamentally means to make something visible or evident — to show, demonstrate, or point out what was previously unknown. Jesus tells a disciple 'I will show you' whom to fear (Luke 12:5) and Paul says the Lord 'showed me' what he must suffer (Acts 9:16). But in the mouths of John the Baptist and Jesus, it takes on a sharper edge: 'Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?' (Matt 3:7; Luke 3:7). Here the word moves from neutral demonstration to urgent admonition. The Swahili translation 'aliwaonya' (he warned them) captures the cautionary force that distinguishes this warning sense from simple showing.

Senses
1. to show, demonstrate, point out To show, demonstrate, or point out something, making visible what was previously hidden or unknown. Used when Jesus declares 'I will show you whom to fear' (Luke 12:5), when Paul recalls how the Lord 'showed' him coming sufferings (Acts 9:16), and when teaching is illustrated by example (Luke 6:47; Acts 20:35). Spanish 'mostraré / os mostraré' and German 'zeigt' reflect the straightforward demonstrative meaning.

2. to warn, admonish To warn or forewarn someone, pointing out impending danger or divine judgment as a cautionary admonition. Both John the Baptist and Jesus ask the crowds, 'Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?' (Matt 3:7; Luke 3:7). The shift from neutral showing to urgent warning is confirmed by Swahili 'aliwaonya' (he warned them), distinct from the general 'show' translations elsewhere.
