V-IIA-3P  |  5× in 1 sense
To drag, pull forcibly along the ground; to haul away by force, whether persons, objects, or figuratively.
This verb conveys raw physical force — the act of hauling or dragging something or someone along. Its NT uses paint vivid pictures: disciples dragging a net heavy with fish to shore (John 21:8), Saul violently dragging believers out of their homes for imprisonment (Acts 8:3), a mob dragging Paul out of a city after stoning him (Acts 14:19), and Jason being dragged before the authorities (Acts 17:6). Revelation 12:4 uses it cosmically, with the dragon's tail sweeping a third of the stars from heaven. German 'schleppen' captures the labored, forcible nature of the action.

Senses
1. sense 1 To drag or haul forcibly, pulling something or someone along the ground or through space. The word carries connotations of violence or great physical effort. In John 21:8, disciples drag a net full of fish; in Acts, it describes the brutal dragging of persons — Saul hauling believers to prison (8:3), Paul dragged out of Lystra after stoning (14:19), Jason dragged before city rulers (17:6). Revelation 12:4 extends it to cosmic imagery: the dragon's tail sweeping stars from the sky. Spanish 'arrastrar' and German 'schleppen' both emphasize the forceful, ground-level pulling.
