syneudokeo -- to consent to, approve jointly, express agreement with an action or practice
Compounded from syn ('together') and eudokeo ('to think well of, approve'), syneudokeo means to join in approving or to give one's consent to an action or practice. It appears in morally weighty contexts throughout the New Testament. Jesus charges the Pharisees: 'you witness and consent to the deeds of your fathers' (Luke 11:48). Saul of Tarsus was 'consenting to' Stephen's execution (Acts 8:1; 22:20). Paul warns that those who 'approve of' wickedness share the guilt of those who practice it (Rom 1:32). In a striking pastoral exception, 1 Corinthians 7:12 uses it positively: if an unbelieving spouse 'consents to live' with a believer, they should not divorce.
