Strōnnymi is a homely, physical verb — its basic meaning is to spread something out flat. The Gospels use it vividly in the triumphal entry narrative: crowds 'spread' (estrōsan) their cloaks and 'were spreading' (estrōnnyon) branches on the road before Jesus (Matt 21:8; Mark 11:8). The same verb takes on domestic coloring when it describes the upper room 'having been furnished' (estrōmenon) for the Last Supper (Mark 14:15; Luke 22:12). Spanish captures the range well: extendieron and tendieron for spreading, amueblado and dispuesto for furnishing.
