V-AMA-2S  |  9× in 1 sense
To send on one's way, escort forward on a journey; to help someone depart with provisions or accompaniment.
A warm word of early Christian hospitality, describing the practice of escorting a departing traveler on the first leg of their journey, often supplying provisions for the road. When the church at Antioch 'sent on their way' Paul and Barnabas (Acts 15:3), or when Ephesian elders accompanied Paul to the ship (Acts 20:38), the word carries overtones of communal care and prayerful farewell. Paul himself hopes to be 'sent on' by the Roman church toward Spain (Rom 15:24). German 'geleiten' (escort, conduct) and Spanish 'acompañar' (accompany) both capture the personal, relational dimension that distinguishes this word from mere dispatching.

Senses
1. send on one's way, escort To escort someone forward on a journey, help them on their way with provisions, companionship, or prayerful support — a characteristic practice of early Christian hospitality. The word appears in Acts describing churches sending missionaries onward (Acts 15:3, 20:38, 21:5) and in the epistles where Paul asks to be helped on his way (Rom 15:24, 1 Cor 16:6, 16:11, 2 Cor 1:16, Titus 3:13, 3 John 6). Unlike simple 'sending,' this verb implies personal accompaniment and material provision for the traveler. German 'geleiten' (to escort) and Spanish 'encaminar' (to set on the road) reflect this hospitable, hands-on character.
