V-APA-NMS  |  4× in 1 sense
See beforehand, foresee; perceive in advance or keep something constantly in view.
Combines the prefix pro- (before, in front of) with horao (see), yielding a word that can mean either to foresee future events or to keep something constantly before one's eyes. Peter at Pentecost quotes David: 'I saw the Lord always before me' (Acts 2:25, from Ps 16:8), where the sense is keeping God in one's gaze. Acts 2:31 describes David foreseeing the resurrection. In Galatians 3:8 the Scripture itself 'foresaw' that God would justify the Gentiles. The word bridges prophetic foresight and attentive vision.

Senses
1. sense 1 See beforehand, foresee, or keep constantly before one's eyes. Acts 2:25 (quoting Ps 16:8) captures the 'before my face' sense -- David kept the Lord always in view, a posture of sustained attentiveness. Acts 2:31 shifts to prophetic foresight: David foresaw the resurrection of the Christ. Acts 21:29 is simpler: they had previously seen Trophimus in the city. Gal 3:8 personifies Scripture itself as foreseeing God's plan. French 'voir d'avance' and German 'vorher sehen' both preserve the temporal prefix. The double sense -- constant vision and advance knowledge -- makes this word theologically rich in the apostolic sermons.
