An interrogative adverb asking about frequency or the number of times something occurs. In classical Greek it functioned both as a question word and indefinitely to mean 'so many times.' The New Testament uses it exclusively in Jesus' teaching, appearing in two parallel passages about Jerusalem and once in Peter's question about forgiveness. All three instances involve Jesus addressing questions of repeated action and divine patience.
