πληροφορ-ία G4136
Full assurance, complete certainty; the settled confidence of deep conviction.
From plērophoreō (to fill completely), plērophoria denotes the fullness of conviction or settled certainty that comes from deep faith. Paul speaks of the 'full assurance of understanding' needed to know the mystery of Christ (Col 2:2) and recalls how the gospel came to the Thessalonians not in word only but in power and full assurance (1 Thess 1:5). Hebrews urges believers toward the full assurance of hope (6:11) and the full assurance of faith (10:22). Spanish 'plena certeza,' French 'certitude,' and German 'Gewissheit' all express this unwavering, complete confidence.
Senses
1. sense 1 — Full assurance or complete certainty, especially regarding matters of faith and hope. Colossians 2:2 speaks of the riches of full assurance that come from understanding God's mystery. In 1 Thessalonians 1:5, plērophoria accompanies the Spirit's power in the gospel's reception. Hebrews 6:11 and 10:22 urge believers to maintain this full assurance in hope and faith, drawing near to God with a sincere heart. The Spanish 'plena certeza' and 'plena convicción' nicely capture the completeness implied—this is not partial confidence but total, settled conviction. 4×
